RESEPSI SOSIAL TERHADAP AYAT TOLERANSI: STUDI LIVING QUR’AN DI MASYARAKAT KOTA PALU

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the reception of urban communities toward Qur’anic verses on tolerance and the social factors influencing such reception. This research employs a qualitative approach using the living Qur’an framework, which views the Qur’an as a social phenomenon manifested in everyday practices. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation in Palu City, Central Sulawesi. The findings reveal that the reception of tolerance-related verses is manifested in three main forms: cognitive, affective, and practical. While community understanding tends to be normative, the practice of tolerance appears diverse and selective. The study also finds that the reception of these verses is influenced by educational background, social experience, religious authority, and historical context. From the perspective of living Qur’an, the meaning of tolerance in the Qur’an is not fixed but continuously negotiated between text and social reality. This study contributes to the development of social Qur’anic interpretation by emphasizing the importance of empirical approaches in understanding the dynamic reception of the Qur’an in urban societies.

Abstrak

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis resepsi masyarakat perkotaan terhadap ayat-ayat toleransi dalam Al-Qur’an serta faktor-faktor sosial yang memengaruhinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode living Qur’an, yang memandang Al-Qur’an sebagai fenomena sosial yang hidup dalam praktik masyarakat. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi di Kota Palu, Sulawesi Tengah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa resepsi masyarakat terhadap ayat-ayat toleransi termanifestasi dalam tiga bentuk utama, yaitu kognitif, afektif, dan praksis. Pemahaman masyarakat cenderung bersifat normatif, sementara praktik toleransi menunjukkan pola yang beragam dan selektif. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa resepsi terhadap ayat toleransi dipengaruhi oleh faktor pendidikan, pengalaman sosial, otoritas keagamaan, dan konteks historis. Dalam perspektif living Qur’an, makna ayat toleransi tidak bersifat tunggal, tetapi merupakan hasil dari proses negosiasi antara teks dan realitas sosial. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam pengembangan studi tafsir sosial dengan menekankan pentingnya pendekatan empiris dalam memahami dinamika pemaknaan Al-Qur’an dalam masyarakat perkotaan.
